Artist's Statment
Over the years my oil paintings have emerged in response to what's been going on in the world and my own psyche. When I paint, after sketching the “figures” onto the canvas in charcoal and getting comfortable with their relationship to one another, the rest seems to just flow. At that point I seem to be “just following directions” as the colors and shapes seem to dictate what is called for next. I experience a strong sense of the paint doing what artist Kandinsky described as “making order out of chaos” and of the painting having a life of its own.
